Delete your account

You can ask us to delete your MySecureOS account and the personal information attached to it at any time. This page explains exactly what happens, what we are obliged to keep, and how long it takes — and lets you lodge the request.

Deleting your account switches off your protection.

Your panic button stops raising alerts, monitored trips are no longer watched, and your emergency contacts will not be notified if you need help. Please make sure you have another form of protection in place first.

01How to request deletion

There are two ways, and both reach the same team:

  • Use the form below — you will be emailed a 6-digit code to confirm the address is yours, then the request is lodged automatically.
  • Email us at info@mysecureos.co.za from the address on your account, with the mobile number you use to sign in.

We ask for the mobile number on the account because that is what identifies it — you sign in with it. We verify the request belongs to you before deleting anything; this protects you from someone else switching off your safety service.

02What gets deleted

Once the request is verified, we permanently delete:

  • Your account and sign-in details (name, mobile number, email address).
  • Your profile, including any photo you uploaded.
  • Your emergency contacts and their phone numbers.
  • Your saved locations, monitored-trip history and stored GPS positions.
  • Your push-notification tokens, so the app can no longer reach your phone.
  • Any link between you and a panic-button device on your account.

03What we have to keep, and why

A small amount of information survives deletion because the law or safety obligations require it. It is separated from your identity where possible:

  • Emergency incident records — when a panic alert was raised and how it was handled is kept as a safety and dispute-resolution audit trail, with your personal details removed or anonymised.
  • Invoices and payment records — South African tax and company law requires us to retain financial records for five years. We never hold your card details; those stay with our payment provider.
  • Records we are legally directed to preserve — for example where an incident is subject to an investigation or legal process.

If your account was provided to you by a security company or employer, they may hold their own copy of your records as a joint controller — ask them directly as well.

04How long it takes

We confirm your request by email straight away, and complete the deletion within 30 days. Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle, so a copy may persist in encrypted backups for a short period after that before being permanently destroyed. We email you once the deletion is done.

05Before you delete

  • Cancel or move any subscription. Deleting the account cancels active cover. If you pay through the App Store or Google Play, cancel the subscription there too — deleting your account does not stop a store subscription.
  • Panic-button hardware you own stays yours, but it will be unlinked and will no longer reach the control room.
  • If you only want to stop location tracking, you can turn location permissions off in your phone settings instead of deleting the account.

Signed in already? You can review what we hold in your account profile before deciding.

06Request deletion

Fill this in and we will action it. You will receive a verification code by email first, then a written confirmation.

07Your other rights

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can also ask for a copy of your information, or have it corrected, instead of deleting it. See our Privacy Policy or email info@mysecureos.co.za.
